Connecting with the Divine: 108 Invocations
Directly connecting with the Divine offers one of the greatest blessings we get to experience as human beings. If we experience the grace of feeling this indescribable connection on a regular basis, we surely know great peace and love. If we have cultivated the space and capacity to connect with the Divine on a daily basis, or better yet throughout the day, we will undoubtedly live in great gratitude. When we live consistently aware of, and connecting with the divine, we most certainly live a life of synchronicities that feel like magic and miracles.
Of course regularly and intentionally connecting with the divine doesn’t mean we won’t experience challenges. We will. Yet, even as we move through the natural ups and downs of life, if we look, we’ll see the threads of the love and light that interconnect us and all things.
This possibility and opportunity for union exists for every one of us at every moment. Here we’ll explore 10 practical and powerful ways to intentionally connect with the Divine. From there we look specifically at the 108 different names of the Divine as a direct path to invoking its presence in the here and now.
How to connect with the Divine
Let’s take a moment to explore some of the most potent and powerful, yet quite simple, ways to practice connecting with the Divine. Each of these practices has the power to bring you into direct contact and connection with this that is greater than our individual selves. Some of the practices may feel easier and more accessible for you than others. With that in mind, practice what feels good to you, and every once in a while stretch your comfort zones and try something new.
- Prayers – When we speak or offer any kind of prayer, from gratitude to petition, or anything in between, if we offer that prayer from a place of inner knowing, faith, trust or surrender, we have made contact with the Divine.
- Mantras – We find, particularly in Eastern traditions, the practice of reciting mantras, or phrases of spiritual power and significance, brings us into an inner and outer harmony that feels like oneness.
- Meditation – Sitting for a period of time where we intend to let the outer world, and our internal mind chatter, quiet down for a bit opens a direct space for connecting with the divine presence available in every moment.
- Yoga – Another tradition from the East, yoga postures or asanas call us into direct presence with not just the moment, but with our own union of heart, mind, body and spirit. This union within in turn becomes Divine union with all.
- Tantric practices – Tantra practices, inherently, by definition, exist as a pathway to the Divine. While often believed to be a practice solely focused on sexual pleasure, the ancient tantric practices invite connecting with the Divine in all moments of life, sexual or otherwise.
- Nature – One of the simplest ways to connect with the Divine exists right outside your back door. Any place where you slow down and notice the delicate beauty, immovable presence, and the intense power of Mother Nature, you will certainly feel the awe that accompanies the experience of the Divine in nature. While the mountains and the ocean can intensify your connection with the Divine, you can find it too in a single blade of grass or a simple dandelion.
- Inside your heart – Your heart, the energetic center in the middle of your body that unites the more physical, lower chakras with the upper, more spiritual, energy centers you enter a seemingly secret passageway straight from your heart to the heart of the Divine.
- Chanting / Singing – Every one of the world’s religious, cultural, and spiritual traditions incorporates music and singing for good reason. When we connect deeply with a song, when we hear, or better yet sing to the Divine, we cannot miss the felt sense of losing our individual existence as we merge with something much greater than ourselves. From ancient Christian Gregorian chants to the Kirtans of India and everything in between, our voice unites us with the One.
- Speaking the Name of the Divine – For many, the simple act of speaking the name of the Divine, in a way that most resonates with your body and being, offers an immediate and direct way of connecting with this that lies beyond us. Below we include 108 different ways to speak the name of the Divine.
- Loving – Finally, some might argue the easiest and some might argue the most difficult way of connecting with the Divine lies in our practice of loving. When we truly love unconditionally we have not just met the Divine, we have become one with it. True love is the Divine.
Beyond these ten most common ways of connecting with the Divine, you’ll find an infinite number of other unique methods you might personally use. We encourage you to let your imagination run wild with possible ways in which you might experience Divine Union. And, we’ll kick things off with a few possibilities: journaling, dreaming, enjoying sensations, play, noticing signs and messages from the Universe and so much more.

To discover more about your natural resonance with Divine energy, and what words and sounds most quickly invoke a sacred experience for you, you could explore each of these names personally and directly. For example, over a period of several days you might try saying each name slowly, repeating it at least 10 times as you notice the experience that arises in your body. Specifically, you could try nine different names a day for 12 days.
Please know that there is no right way to explore connecting with the Divine and there is no right name for this infinite, ineffable presence that unites us all. Yet, there is a way for you in this moment. The path for you may change in the next moment, yet the connection remains always available. This unique and ever unfolding relationship is part of the mystery of the Divine.
Again, no matter what path you take or what methods you use for connecting with the Divine, the journey remains always personal. No other person will ever experience the Divine in exactly the same way you do. At the same time, each connection you make will remain unique and distinct from any other connection you have had or will have. Yet, interestingly, with practice, union with the Divine becomes one unending ever changing moment.
As you continue connecting, you will see that the Divine nature itself unfolds and evolves in every moment. It is the ever present now. As you live this moment wholly and completely, you might just realize the deepest most ancient truth of the Universe.
