Destiny: How to Reach Your Greatest Life

When we imagine our destiny it can stir up both our greatest dreams and our deepest fears simultaneously. We may hope for a divine destiny, yet at the same time fear, if even subtly, a destiny of suffering or even misery. The beautiful and sometimes frightening truth is that our future lies before us, beyond this moment. We cannot know from one day to the next, nor even one moment to the next, what life has in store for us. How many times have we known life to change forever in a heartbeat? It may bring us the greatest delight we’ve ever known. Or, we may face the seemingly most devastating loss. 

Are both our destiny? Can we know what that is? Do we control our destiny? Or is it fate? 

When we talk about destiny, we come face-to-face with the truth that few of us willingly nor excitedly face: we cannot control the outcome of any endeavor. We cannot control our destiny. Yet most human beings have spent countless hours, in one form or another, contemplating their personal destiny. With that, our relationship to destiny invites us into the greatest surrender we will ever be asked for. Yet, interestingly, in that surrender, we will find the greatest power to influence that destiny.

Let’s go deeper.  Here we’ll explore and answer the question: what does destiny mean? We’ll explore whether destiny is truly synonymous with fate, whether it’s predetermined or if we truly have influence. We will then explore the unique dimensions of the destiny of our soul and the destiny of our heart. By the end, we will have opened the doorway to something breathtaking.

What does destiny mean? 

Before we can fully understand our relationship to our own destiny, we will be served to know what destiny truly is. However, many have realized that that question, and our inability to fully answer it, exists as part of the mystery of life. Let’s look at why the idea of destiny may appear more complicated than it is.

When exploring the concept, we are often met with very differing and even opposing definitions. One school of thought defines destiny as more or less synonymous with the future, however that might unfold. Others believe that destiny is the predetermined outcome of our lives, making it more equivalent to the idea of a choiceless fate over which we have no influence or control. Still others define destiny as the greater force or power that unites us all. They might make destiny equivalent to Life, the Universe, God, Spirit or the Divine; the same higher power that can take our breath away with its majestic and sometimes magical influences and expressions.^1,2

We have found through our work that the essence and experience of destiny incorporates a bit of all three definitions simultaneously. As you’ll see below, it is our experience that yes, each of us, including our hearts and souls, holds a unique frequency, a Divine expression, embodiment, and ecstasy meant just for us.

There’s no guarantee

The living of that personal destiny is, however, not guaranteed. We must cooperate with our hearts, minds, bodies, and spirits to manifest that destiny into form and experience. To do that we must also engage with and dance with the unfolding of Life or the Universe. We find it is that combination of unique soul frequency, and our conscious engagement with life, that determines whether we reap all the benefits of our destiny. We do not find them to be either predetermined or guaranteed. 

This means we will move through both delightful and deeply challenging experiences all of which will be necessary to free our mind and body, our ego, so that we may fully live into that destiny. Ultimately, there is a quality of soulful ecstasy available to each of us. The question is whether or not we have the courage and willingness to walk the sacred path into it.

Soul Destiny, Heart Destiny

While our hearts and our souls have a deeply intimate relationship with one another, we can distinctly consider the relationship with, and the influence on, our destiny that each holds. We need a strong relationship with both to experience a life fully lived, to  create a life that takes our breath away over and over again. Isn’t it really a breathtaking wonder and joy that we all ultimately want? It is what we’re all destined for, if we’re willing to say yes to it.

Our human heart holds the key to the infinite and unconditional love meant for each of us, for all of us. Our hearts, when we fully enter them, offer the self acceptance and self love that make it possible to live out our soul’s destiny. As a matter of fact, the French words for heart and courage share the same origin root. And, as you know, we need great courage to open our hearts and allow them to remain open to the ecstasies of love, along with the pains that often accompany it. It is that willingness to keep our hearts open to the depths of love that allows our soul’s destiny to manifest in our lives.

As we alluded to earlier, each of our souls holds a unique expression and frequency within humanity. There has never been before us and never will be after us another human being with the exact soul frequency that we hold. It defines our unique puzzle piece in the whole of life. That frequency that we hold also contains the map to our greatest ecstasy, to the life and the love that will take our breath away over and over again.

Fortunately, or unfortunately, depending on how you look at it, that same soul expression and embodiment also reveals the fears we must conquer and the personal greatness we must claim. When we live into our souls destiny we will learn the lessons we’re meant to learn, make the contributions to humanity we’re meant to make, and through both of those, discover the most fulfilling, extraordinary, and breathtaking life experience we could ever have. 

This is our soul destiny. But again, the question remains will we accept the invitation? 

Sadly, few beings ever become aware of, let alone live out, their divine destiny.

How do we influence our destiny?

What if the path to our greatest joy, greatest fulfillment, greatest love is laid out before us? What if there is a highway from this moment now in your life to the life that the deepest part of you has always known you were meant for? What if your dreams were more than dreams?

What if your map didn’t tell you every little step, didn’t tell you to exactly when to go right or left, or when to shift up or down, but offered you a myriad of pathways that all led to your own personal ecstasy; to the life, the love and the lovemaking that have always been there waiting to take your breath away?

What if we actually have to say yes to our destiny? What if you have to say yes to yours?

What if the thing that will bring you the most joy, the most happiness, the most ecstasy, is the same thing that will scare you more than anything else in life?

What if Marianne Williamson spoke the truth in her book A Return to Love when she said, ”Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.”

What if your destiny is so big, so wonderful, so powerful that it brings up every one of your deepest fears? What if walking that path asks you to meet your darkest shadows? 

Yes, your soul has offered you those invitations. Your destiny has been courting you and calling you your entire life. Have you had the courage to say yes?

As we conclude, you can see exactly why your destiny is not predetermined. It is where your will comes in. You always retain complete choice when it comes to your destiny. You get to decide whether you say yes to the challenges and the delights available for you in your heart.
